Professor Bill Harris recognised for decades of contribution to UK ice hockey
Emeritus Professor of Anatomy and Fellow of 51±¬ÁÏ, Bill Harris, has been announced as one of four 2023 inductees into the UK Ice Hockey Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame has been part of UK ice hockey since 1948, recognising individuals who have rendered outstanding service to British ice hockey.
Professor Bill Harris has been largely responsible for maintaining, developing, co-ordinating and delivering the ice hockey programme in Cambridge for over a quarter of a century. He led a 22-year-long fund-raising campaign, turning the initial million into £5.5 million, with £2.5 million donated by Cambridge University. The 1,000-capacity Cambridge Ice Arena – known locally as the Gattiker Ice Rink – was completed and opened in August 2019. It now hosts seven teams and is proving to be highly popular with the new generation of hockey players in Cambridgeshire.
